Let No One Deceive Himself
an Exhortation on 1 Corinthians 3:18
by Eddie Diaz
Verse: “Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you seems to be wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise.”
You know, brothers, I put a lot of importance in getting my education – going to college, going to self-help groups, attending NA/AA/CGA. There is nothing wrong in learning about our triggers, our shortcomings, our causative and contributing factors. There is nothing wrong with learning coping skills and learning about the twelve steps.
But let no one deceive himself. This knowledge is not going to save.
In the Bible it says, “The wisdom of this world is foolishness with God.” And it is foolishness if you pay attention to what is considered worldly standards.
– Kids are being taught that they have a choice to be a boy or a girl, if they choose. Let no one deceive himself.
– People are being taught that it is ok to have same sex marriages. Let no one deceive himself.
– People think that having more money and more material things will make them happier – this is not true – but this is what people think. The more they have the happier they will be. No brothers. True happiness comes from our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Knowing that we are saved because of what He did for us on the cross; knowing that one day we will be in the presence of Him and spend eternity with Him. This is what true happiness looks like. Amen.
When I read “the wisdom of the world is foolishness with God”, I automatically went back to the thought of when I was taking a biology class a few years ago. I remember thinking to myself, “this is what is being taught to us.” I was reading about how two different molecules, or something like that mixed together, created oxygen, and from that oxygen plants were created and from there everything else was created.
After I read this brothers, I remember telling myself, “This is not true.” My Heavenly Father is the one that created the heavens and the earth.
I bring these things up, brothers, to give you examples of worldly wisdom that God considers foolish.
Again, brothers, this wisdom, this knowledge, does not save us.
What saves us is God’s wisdom – -Jesus Christ. Believing in Jesus Christ and putting your faith in Him is what saves us. The Bible says “It is because of Him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God…” (1 Corinthians 1:30)
For us who are searching for that real, true wisdom is found Jesus Christ.
All we have to do is look in the place that this world says is foolish.
The Bible says, “For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us, who are being saved it is the power of God.”
So, I encourage you brothers, let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you seems to be wise in this age – let him become a fool that he may become wise because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than man.
